Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM26007 - Select and use reinforcing appropriate for product

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Fabricate product

  1. Identify and control hazards
  2. Prepare selected reinforcing including cutting to size/shape and any pre-treatment, as required
  3. Lay reinforcing in correct direction, including fibre orientation and fibre pre-forming, as appropriate
  4. Mix nominated resin system, as required
  5. Fabricate product using selected process and minimise waste
  6. Review product compared to requirements
  7. Review reinforcing selection and fabrication process
  8. Identify areas for improvement and take appropriate actions
  9. Complete any required documentation/reporting according to SOPs

Required Skills and Knowledge
Range Statement

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Requirements of reinforcing include the following:

strength

flexibility/rigidity

directionality

drape

operating temperature

Most appropriate reinforcing includes the following:

compliance with product requirements

greatest ease of use in manufacture

best financial return

greatest sustainability contribution

Areas for improvement include one (1) or more of the following:

cost/benefit of different reinforcing systems

selecting a reinforcing suited to the fabrication process

Sustainability includes the following:

survival of the ecology/physical environment

economic viability

social sustainability
